Aqueous conversion of monosaccharides to furans: were we wrong all along to use catalysts?
نویسندگان
چکیده
Dehydration of the most relevant biomass derived monosaccharides, xylose, glucose and fructose, was investigated to attain value-added platform chemicals: furfural, hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) levulinic acid (LA).

Diabetes: Have We Got It All Wrong?
In this “clinical” contribution to the Bench to Clinic Symposia, we will show data to support the hypothesis that fasting hyperinsulinemia is the initial underlying cause of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and that the remission of the disease following bariatric surgery may be due to the correction of hyperinsulinemia. The intent of this article is to elicit critical thinking about the pathoph...
متن کاملDiabetes: Have We Got It All Wrong?
The problemdDiabetes is prevalent and chronic (1). A meta-analysis of studies published between 1990 and 2006 showed that in adults, obesity prevalence increased from 13 to 32% between the 1960s and 2004. Currently, 66% of U.S. adults are overweight or obese. The incidence of diabetes is increasing and afflicting new populations including children anddeveloping societies. Changes in obesity pre...
متن کاملTesting heuristics: We have it all wrong
The competitive nature of most algorithmic experimentation is a source of problems that are all too familiar to the research community It is hard to make fair comparisons between algorithms and to assemble realistic test problems Competitive testing tells us which algorithm is faster but not why Because it requires polished code it consumes time and energy that could be spent doing more experim...
متن کاملNon-oxidative conversion of methane to aromatics over modified zeolite catalysts by transitional metals
The activity of different transitional metals over modified H-ZSM-5 catalysts for methane conversion to aromatics was compared. The first group of catalysts was Mo-impregnated H-ZSM-5 zeolites with 1, 3 and 6 wt% of Mo. The second group was M(3 wt%)- impregnated H-ZSM-5 (M: Ag, Cd, Cr, Mo, Zn and Mn). The catalytic activity of the first group was investigated at 600, 700 and 800 °C and gas hour...
